RFID sniffer

RFID sniffer

About this project

RFID is everywhere. Use the easy to build RFID sniffer to find out if objects are tagged.
The RFID sniffer is a simple analog electronic circuit which can detect the presence of 13.56 MHz RFID tags. These tags are commonly used in all kinds of plastic cards like access badges, bank cards, library cards, loyalty cards and so on. Also many other objects may carry RFID tags without you knowing it. Books, toys, and even clothing might be tagged. Carrying tagged objects with you can reveal your identity or whereabouts to anyone equipped with the appropiate tools to read RFID tags.
The RFID sniffer helps you identify which objects are tagged, and which are not.

RFID cloner

A new idea for a more advanced product: the RFID cloner.
It would have the same form factor as the RFID sniffer, but instead of merely detecting presence, this device can read the unique serial number of a RFID tag, store it at the press of a button, and subsequently imitate a tag using that same id. (which is then not unique anymore!)
Basically it would be a hybrid device, consisting of a RFID reader and a (active) RFID tag, both using the same antenna, and running from a battery. It could also have a USB port for sending the id to a host computer, setting the tag id, and charging the battery.
I wonder if anyone did this before...

I'm waiting...

Yes.

and there is an even older one where a guy made the antenna from scratch and boxed it all up in a nice plexiglass case making it portable.

This would be a great project to tie to into your arduino shield.

Hi, Do u have anything which can sniff the communication between the tag and reader or vice versa,  not just the presence of tags. If you are having that, I will be very intrested in that, and would like to get one, Please let me know..

Thanks

great idea, any time info - when we can buy this?
what card will by support?

Hello marc,

People need something like http://www.openpcd.org/openpicc.0.html . We would like to sniff data between receiver and sender. Openpicc is not manufactured any more so if you manufacture something similar like that we would buy one as soon as possible :)

@adam: can you explain what you mean by 'sm circuit specifications'?

@nordico: my cloner would only copy the unique serial number of the tag, and not be able to read or modify its memory, used by any but the most primitive access control or ticketing systems. don't expect free rides.

i'd buy it

hey , bud

can u tell abt sm circuit specifications so that i can try one out at home.

wil b thankful.
